Our mission
To provide a safe, caring and supportive environment where children can be protected, nurtured and given opportunities to grow, learn and build a positive future.
What we do
We provide a safe environment where children are cared for, protected and supported. That means meeting basic needs — a safe place to stay, food, clothing, rest — and also the needs that are harder to see: the need to feel safe, to be listened to and to be treated with dignity.
Who we serve
We serve children in Khayelitsha and the surrounding area who need care and protection, and the families and caregivers connected to them.
Why the work matters
Children who have experienced neglect, abuse, abandonment or a crisis at home need more than a roof. A stable, caring environment, even for a short time, can help a child feel safe again and give the adults around them time to plan properly for the child's future.
Khayelitsha is a large and vibrant community with deep resilience. Like many communities, it also faces real pressures, and children are often the first to feel them. Local, trusted care matters because children can stay close to their language, culture, schools and community.
How we support children
- Safe, supervised care in a stable routine
- Meals and attention to health and hygiene
- Support to keep up with school and learning
- Play, rest and time to simply be a child
- Working with social workers and families on each child's next steps
Community involvement
We cannot do this alone. Neighbours, volunteers, local businesses, faith communities, schools and donors all help — with time, skills, goods and funding. When the community carries part of the load, children benefit.
Our long-term goals
- Keep strengthening the quality of care every child receives.
- Support more families so that children can stay safely at home.
- Train and support our caregivers, staff and volunteers.
- Build a stable base of local supporters and partners so that the work is sustainable.
