What we collect

  • When you contact us or fill in a form: your name, email address, phone number and anything you choose to tell us. Volunteer applications also include your location, availability and experience.
  • When you subscribe to updates: your email address and your consent.
  • When you donate: payments are processed by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of your donation and the details needed to thank you and issue a receipt. We do not see or store your full card details.
  • When you browse the site: our server keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also collects information about how you use the site — see our cookie policy.

Why we use it

  • To reply to you and handle your request
  • To process volunteer applications, including safeguarding checks you agree to
  • To thank donors, issue receipts and keep financial records we are required to keep
  • To send updates if you have asked for them
  • To keep the website secure and understand, in aggregate, how it is used

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not use it for any purpose you would not reasonably expect.

Children's information

This website is not designed to collect information from children. We do not publish identifying information about children in our care. Information about children is held offline under strict confidentiality and only shared with authorised people, such as social workers, where the law and the child's best interests require it.

Who we share it with

We only share personal information with service providers who help us run the website, deliver email or process payments, and only as far as needed. Some of these providers may store information outside South Africa; where they do, we use providers that offer adequate protection as required by POPIA.

We will disclose information to authorities if the law requires it, or to protect a child from harm.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as the law requires (for example, financial records).

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to its use, or withdraw your consent at any time. You can unsubscribe from updates using the link in any email. To make a request, contact us.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za.

Security

This website uses HTTPS encryption. Form submissions are sent securely and access to them is limited to people who need it.
